Makes sense I guess.
I wonder how off centre and off height you can be and still get it to guide the tongue into the belly of the beast ?
I would think you might still have to wonder back and check the height before pressing ahead with the shunting.

I think the other concern could be if the uni loosened up, and didn't stay horizontal, Wouldn't fancy sticking my hand in there to hold it.

I have a McHitch which I am very happy with. The "uni" has never loosened and started drooping, but I reckon not all would be like this. You could have a good point.
