Howdy,

I am sitting in my van in Mt Gambier wondering what tyres I will get to replace my now discontinued and much loved Bridgestone Dueller AT 694 285/65 R17 for my 200 Series.

Bridgestone are bringing out a 697 as a replacement, but I have heard no comments on it yet.

What are you using on your tow vehicles, and are you happy with your choice.

Thanks a lot,

Willie.

We are very happy with the 285 x 75 x 17 Cooper ST Maxx
16000 K's nil wear visible
This size makes the speedo read 100 % accurate and they are very quite and balanced well

Regards

Hi Scott. Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately, I have two brand new 694 in 285/65 which I have to use as spares. So I am forced to buy that size.

I will check to see if Coopers make your tyre in that size and also, how agressive (and noisy) the tread pattern is.

Cheers,

Willie.

Hi Willie,

I am on my second set of 697s and I can't speak highly enough about the run I have had. They are on my Toyota Landcruiser 100 series.

The 697 has been available for about 3 or 4 years in the 17 inch size. The benefit of them is that they are a light truck tyre and are 8 ply. The tyres on my vehicle are LT275 65/R17 A/T.

I have not found them to be noisy even though they have a strong (not aggressive) tread pattern. We had about 45,000 kms from the first set and have already notched up 28,000 on the current set which show minimal tread wear. About 30% of our 'Cruiser use is towing our Bushtracker and much of that is on outback tracks. Much of the other 70% use is off road in the Flinders Ranges, bush tracks in general, and the inevitable bitumen roads. The latter includes regular 700 km trips to Eyre Peninsula, and 1400 km trips to Canberra (both from the Adelaide Hills) to visit family.

In the time we have used 697 LTs we have had 2 punctures.

Worth considering.

Safe travelling,

Thanks Vince.
When I rang Bridgestone I got the impression (wrongly) that the 697 was a new model. Possibly because she said they had no stock yet. They must have bee out of them for a while.
I will check now to see if they have a 285 65 R17 size in that tyre.
Cheers,
Willie

G'day Willie, We too are sitting in our BT in Mt Gambier. We're at the Showgrounds. Have looked outside an can't see another BT. Looks like we're in for a good day though.

Hi Willie,

I have a set of the 697's 285/65 R17 on my 200, after a set of 694's. IMO the 697's are a better tyre, quiter and tracking seems better.

Bridgestone Select are running a special at the moment, if you buy 4 tyres the 4th one is free, seems like a good deal to me. You may want to check it out?

Thanks Brian.

I am going with the 697, but neither Bridgestone outlet in Mt Gambier has stock. I will ring their HQ and see when stock will become available.

Cheers.

Willie.

Hi Willie,

I have just been into Bridgestone Mt Barker to put tyres on my daughters car, they currently have the offer of the 4th tyre free for a couple of their car tyre and unfortunately not for 4WD tyres. Sorry to mislead you on that one.

We have the 697's on the 200.
For a set of four in Jan 2014, price range was $1598 up to $1800, Bob Jane being the dearest. Also try K-Mart tyres as they were one of the cheapest. Towards the end of the year, the 697's will go on the BT as well. Totally happy with the Bridgies.

Thanks Chris.

I have ordered a set for $1598 from a place in Adelaide who sells to trucks - he has a big place and can do it with the van attached.

Cheers.
