Have travelled Savannah Way over the past few weeks. It was fantastic and we really enjoyed it. Diverted from Normanton down to Burke & Wills, Adels Grove, Kingfisher Camp and up to Hells Gate. Then to Borroloola - road in average condition travelled around 60kph. From Boroloola went through the Limmen National Park at around 40-60kph, parts of the road had been recently graded. The 30km in and out of Lorella Springs was very corrugated and took over an hour each way.

From memory fuel at Borroloola was around $1.90, the aboriginal co-op was cheapest. Fuel at Lorella Springs is $3.00 per litre! glad we put in a large tank.

For more information, have a look at our blog wellswanders.blogspot.com.au which has details of the camps we stayed at.

Recommend Butterfly Springs and Tomato Island. At Borroloola we stayed at the McArthur River Caravan Park while we replenished our stocks and did the washing. Lorella Springs was great, maybe a bit exe at $20pp per night for a bush camp, but it has the advantage of 34C warm springs, plenty to do and an on-site bakery with lovely fresh bread each day.

Feel free to call us on 0414579044 if you want more details.

cheers
Cherryl & Robert

We did that route July ...stayed at King Ashe Bay out of Borroloola & loved it...Road to Roper Bar/Tomato Island was ok...usual 80/60/40 with entry/exit on river crossings requiring very cautious attitude.
