I thought it would be interesting to hear about the ideas and adventures of the owners of all types of off road caravans, not just Bushtrackers.

I started a page to accomplish this today, and I have called it :

"Off-road Caravanning in Australia". Do a search if you are a Facebook person.

Please do me a favour and ask to become a friend, as it is hard to get these things going with a sufficient numbers of posters, to make it viable.

Thanks,

Willie.

Just be warned that it is a Restricted Group. You can request to join the group as a Pending Member, but you have to wait until the Group Moderators Confirm you to post anything.

I am currently in that Pending Member group! Mike needs to add me. I can see who all the Members are, and when Mike added them

Later: Done, thanks Mike

Hi Willie

Having just muddled onto Facebook late last night, it is something I haven't got a clue about. How do I become your Facebook friend?

Mrs Chook,

I am the worst person to ask. I am hopless with Facebook,, but I am persisting because there is so much interesting stuff on there.

It is very confusing, but it is possible to muddle through by "trying all the buttons until it works" or alternatively getting a child to help you, as I do !

Your first move must be to go into Facebook and open a free account. When you have done that, go to the link provided. Then request that you become a friend of Off-road Camping in Australia.

If you are having trouble then, get back to me and I will ask my son !

Good luck.

Hi Mike, I have just asked on Facebook. Mutha, look for me by name, and make sure you have a photo of me in my hat side on. You search in the top line, and will show list of options. As Mike says, you will need to set up your account first. Make sure you tighten up your security. I have my info only available to friends, NOT friends of friends.

I seemed to just loose my reply :O

Hi John, I have found you, but cannot 'like' or 'friend' or anything.

Hi Stephen and thanks for the 'like' :)

HI Mike; how to I join your page?

I am posting as a page Australia So Much to See.

My time is limited so I have not been able to look at Facebook much.

What has happened to our Edit function on the forum? I was going to add that it may be the way I have set up my page - I had no idea as I muddled through.

Edit button has returned ;)

Just look in the banner to you post to edit Mutha. In Facebook there are quite easy to recognise places to 'Friend' on the page of the person. Just touch the link to my page and under my banner which is a sunset, it should be there.

There should be a lot of friends for me. There is another of the same name without a picture that was starting to be populated with my info, but has had it removed. Only "friend" people where you can be sure it is that person.

One FB friend had a friend request from his wife. Thing was he was already a FB friend of his wife! Not sure why people are trying to copy pages, but they do.

Oh, Mutha, I had the restriction to add friend to Friends of Friends. Changed now, or if I could find you, I could ask. Search couldn't earlier

Muvva, it looks like you have been successful in setting up a group or business as Australia so much to see. I am a moderator for another one. Doing that, the other entity can't join up to other groups or entities. If you joined using your name, you could join or like groups. I think it is all to do with the way you set it up, or the entity you are trying to work with.

If I access our farm entity on FB and adopt the moderator role, I have to step back from it to get to "Friend" anyone, even though I may search them.

I think I have a pending membership. Just joined facebook today.

I do not like social media but this will be a way to educate me. I am scared of third party activity (friends of firends etc) using my info etc without my knowledge.

Alan,

I find it rather overwheming too, but we had a lot of fun posting photos etc for our friends when we did our last trip.

The best thing to do I guess is limit the amount of info abot yourself in the profile.

Thanks for joining up,

Willie.

I feel the same way Alan, and have refused to join earlier. My presence will be very limited and will not (I hope) show my name to anyone. This way I can see some FB members only sites (eg those given as links on forum when of interest), I can 'like' sites when they let me, and I can post replies on Free Choice Camping.

Can one of you tech savvy Boggers help poor Mother Hen out. She has posted a screen shot which shows she has joined Facebook and reached the page of Off-road caravanning in Australia.

Now she has hit a brick wall and needs advice.

Thanks,

Willie.

Grumpyolephartz is right. As a 'page' I cannot join, hence no "join group" button. I can only join as a person, and Facebook refused to believe my first name is Mother :O

After only one day we have about 20 interested "friends" on the new page, and already lots of great posts.

Thanks to all you Boggers who helped.

The page has a heap of friends with Bushtrackers. Now to make it interesting, we need to gather some friends with other brands.

If you know anybody with a van and a sense of adventure, please tell them about the new page. I posted on the Spinifex owners forum, so that should get a bit of interest.

Thanks again to everyone who has helped,

Willie

Hello Willie,

We've just joined the group. Is it desirable/compulsory to become a friend as well?

Cheers

Paul,

You are asking a technically challenged person here ! My guess is NO - try without it and see how you go.

I actually thought by joining you were becoming a FRIEND, but really, I have no idea about Facebook. I can make posts, but I have a lot to learn.

Good luck,

Willie.

That "Off Road Caravanning" requested to join "Off-Road Caravanning in Australia", how very odd.

I knocked it back. We only have people as members.

The site now has over 350 members. The large majority seem to be non posters, but maybe we can encourage them to disgorge their secrets.

There is a lot of BT and Kedron owners, a few Spinifex, Trakmaster and Free Spirit, one AOR Aurora and a heap of other brands.

Thanks to everone who helped to get the page up and running.

Willie.
