Information
Hinze Dam provides a safe drinking water supply to the people of the Gold Coast. It also provides flood mitigation to homes
downstream of the dam. The water from Hinze Dam is treated to produce drinking water and follows the water journey of source, store and supply
Hinze Dam is located 5km west of Nerang on the Gold Coast. The dam is restricted to electric powered vessels, sail craft and paddle craft only. Fishing is permitted along the shoreline at the Eastern boat ramp, Western boat ramp and paddle craft launch point and from restricted vessels on the dam.
There is no camping at the dam. The facilities at the dam include toilets, free barbeques, picnic tables, shelters, playground and the Hinze Dam Visitor Centre with educational displays and a cafe.
Dogs on leashes are permitted in Picnic Parkland and Pocket Park. There are walking and mountain bike trails around the dam including the Peter Hallinan Mountain Bike Precinct.
NOTE: Australian bass (fish) and water in a number of dams in South-East Queensland were tested for mercury in 2018. Bass in Hinze Dam on the Gold Coast were found to have elevated levels of mercury. Based on the results, fish from Hinze Dam should not be consumed.
Swimming is not permitted.
There are four picnic and barbecue areas with nearby playgrounds for the kids and onlookers, plus a state-of-the-art educational interpretive centre perched above the parklands and lake.
