At 2039 hours on the 4th May 1945, this DC 3 Aircraft VH-CXD departed Archerfield in Brisbane with 4 crew and 2 passengers enroute to New Guinea.

At 0518 hours the plane crashed and all 6 men were killed and this memorial was erected in memory of all those on board that died in the crash.
