Historical site, Road side over night stop over. Turn off to Salvator Rosa.

Major Thomas Mitchell traversed this area during his 1846 expedition during which he hoped to solve the mystery of Australian inland river system. He named the valley Salvator Rosa after the famous Italian painter and the Claude River and Mantuan Downs plains after the painter, Mantuan Biard.
