Information
A large NSW Nat Parks campground in the Mutawintji National Park.
The campground is set alongside Homestead Creek which, when it rains, flows out of the rocky canyons immediately to the east of the campground.
After a prolonged drought, recent rainfall (mid 2020) has seen vegetation and wildlife return to this arid area. The campground is a birdwatcher's paradise.
A mix of partially shaded and exposed sites of various sizes makes it suitable for all styles of camping up to mid sized vans and motor homes. Not suitable for large rigs.
There are a number of walks you can do. The Homestead Creek walk is pretty and leads you up onto the rocky domes that are a feature of the park. There are two canyon walks, while the Western Ridge walk provides views over the campground to the east and surrounding areas to the west. A perfect place to watch the sun rise or set.
Access is via dirt roads - check before committing yourself as the roads are closed when wet.
Showers (solar heated but be early in the queue if you don't want to miss out), flushing toilets, two undercover outdoor kitchens with gas BBQs and gas hotplates, tables and benches. A donation is requested.
Clean, sweet bore water and tank water (seasonal) are both available, but boil before drinking.
There is no mobile phone coverage at the campground, but a weak Telstra signal can be found partway up the Western Ridge Walk. Camping fees can be paid on line prior to arrival or at the campground pay station.
During Covid-19, sites must be booked but are unallocated.
