Traversed here by the Birdsville track, the desert gibbers are a deep red. The gibber pebbles lie atop a crusty soil layer. Pressure from a foot, hoof or tyre pushes the stones into the crust, leaving a shallow hole which soon fills with sand giving a sharp contrast to the gibbers. Such impressions last many years.
