Information

Sandy Bay is a near city suburb south of Hobart. Within its confines are two prime tourist point, Wrest Point casino and the judges box for the finishing line of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht race. The main road to the south passes through Sandy Bay, giving access to the Huon Valley and points south. The Wrest Point Casino was the first legal casino in Australia. It opened in 1973.

Sandy Bay has two main beaches facing the Derwent. They are Nutgrove Beach and Long Beach, both of which give ready access to the river. There are many large and historic homes, shopping facilities and tourist accommodation. Sandy Bay is part of the City of Hobart.

The mountains are close to the river so the housing tiers up the slopes providing superb views of the Derwent and the east coast suburbs.
