Lake Chisholm is one of the mony sinkholes in this area, but only one of a few that have filled with water, Sinkholes form over many hundreds of thousands of years as water dissolves thru highly soluble rock in this case dolomite Water usually drains through the hole in the sinkhole and flows into the groundwater system creating a dry crater However, at Lake Chisholm the drainage hole became blocked by organic material from the forest floor. This allowed water to accumulate within the sinkhole to create this extraordinary take
