Myrtle Beech are the common rainforest trees here. Many are 300 to 400 years old. Mountain Ash eucalypts tower above - 60 to 70 metres tall and 250 to 300 years old.
Some of the Mountain Ash trees are dying from insect attack and old age.
As they die, they are replaced by Myrtle Beech and other rainforest species. But if a fire burns through the forest, Mountain Ash trees will regrow from seed. It's the lifecycle of this forest.
