Information

The Alpine Way joining Thredbo with Khancoban was constructed by the Snowy Mtns Hydroelectric Authority in the mid 1950's. It enabled access to construction sites such as Geehi Dam and Murray 1 Power Station. At a suitable site some trees were felled to reveal a superb view to The Pilot - a mountain some 25 km south of the road. A small cairn and stone wall mark the site which is signposted but alas misspelled as Pilots Lookout. Nearby is Siberia - best appreciated during a blizzard.
