Information

Alpine village part of Perisher Blue ski resort. Bushfires in January 2003 burned the snowgums which sprouted new shoots from their base. The rate of new growth is only 30 cm per year in the severe alpine climate. The dead tree limbs are a stark grey and show the random nature of a fire as stands of healthy unburned trees are scattered across the hills. The tree is classified as Eucalyptus pauciflora. Meaning a lack or paucity of flowers. One of Natures wonders is snow on a snowgum.
