Mookaite Mine - WA

Mining for a jasper like material that has a range of stunning colours.Mookaite is a distinctive Western Australian lapidary stone associated with the Mooka Creek/Kennedy Range area, and good material is sought after, but ordinary rough is still quite affordable. One Australian supplier currently lists rough mookaite at about A$24.90/kg, while another sells it in quantities from A$8–$80 depending on weight. What makes a piece considerably more desirable is strong colour and pattern—especially combinations of deep burgundy/red, mustard yellow, cream and purple, rather than a fairly uniform brown or cream piece. Unusual dendritic patterns, fossil features, large clean pieces and particularly attractive multicoloured slabs can command substantially more.
