Yardie Creek Crossing - WA

Yardie Creek floods the gorge but where it enters the ocean there are shifting sandbars enabling a crossing. Yardie Creek can be crossed by 4WD and only at low tide. The crossing is sandy and river is tidal so check local tide times or you will sit waiting for hours for waters to recede. At other times it is dry but soft sand.Update: The creek has now closed over where it meets the beach and is completely dry. Apparently it has been closed over for the last couple of years (according to the Exmouth Tourist Information Centre. It is currently hard packed sand and can be easily crossed. The track north of the crossing is tar and accessible by 2WD vehicles driving around from Exmouth. Camping is at designated sites and only with prior booking (often booked out a year ahead). The track south of the crossing requires a 4WD vehicle due to sandy, corrugated tracks that lead to very soft sandy campsites such as Winderabandi Point, and other camping areas within the Ningaloo Station camping zone. It continues further along bumpy sandy tracks to Coral Bay where the bitumen begins again.
