Information

Ascot Racecourse is one of Perth’s most historic and prestigious horse racing venues, located approximately 8 km east of the Perth central business district. Often referred to as the “grand old lady” of Australian racecourses, Ascot has been a central hub for thoroughbred racing since its establishment in 1848.Situated along the scenic Swan River, Ascot Racecourse features a 2000m track with modern, well-drained turf and a short 300m home straight. The racecourse is operated by Perth Racing, formerly known as the Western Australian Turf Club, which has been hosting races at Ascot for over 160 years.Ascot is renowned for its vibrant racing calendar, with two major carnivals in the Spring and Autumn seasons. The Pinnacles, formerly known as the ‘Summer Carnival’ and ‘Masters,’ is Perth Racing’s newly re-branded carnival featuring the state’s three Group 1 races, along with 16 additional black-type contests across five consecutive Saturdays. Nearly $11 million is up for grabs during the five days of The Pinnacles, headlined by major races such as the Railway Stakes, Winterbottom Stakes, Northerly Stakes and Gold Rush.Perth Racing also hosts the iconic Perth Cup, which is run annually on New Year’s Day. This major race day invites locals and visitors to kick off the new year in style. The Autumn Carnival features WA’s richest race, The Quokka, worth $5 million. This slot race is contested by 13 runners and attracts interstate and international horses, fans, and participants to Ascot. The Quokka forms part of The Western Trilogy and is Australia’s fourth richest thoroughbred race. While racing only takes place between October and May, the course is home to the state’s leading trainers, who utilise the training tracks each morning to prepare their thoroughbreds for the racetrack. Over 500 horses are trained each morning, with three training tracks, practice barriers, and a horse swimming pool available for use.The racecourse is not just about racing; it also offers a variety of dining and entertainment options, with more than 15 restaurants, bars, and casual dining venues, ensuring a delightful experience for all visitors.see website for upcoming Events
