False Entrance - WA

False Entrance was so named because many mariners mistook the entrance to the bay as the passage between the mainland and Dirk Hartog Island. Heading towards False Entrance, you will have unbelievable views of the Indian Ocean; these very high cliffs go all the way south to Kalbarri. Keep in mind, there is no access track south.
In this area the cliffs are over 100 metres high and again are very dangerous. Don’t attempt to stand on the edge and do take special care of children. Near the approach to the cliffs are two large blow holes and if conditions are correct, water will be forced up from the ocean below.
When following the main track west take every side track you encounter to the cliffs, each is only a hundred metres or so long. At each of these spots you will have excellent views across the Indian Ocean and up and down the cliff face. At one of these spots you will find a place called ‘The Washing Machine’. A large horse shoe shaped section of the cliff has fallen away leaving a rugged and spectacular viewing platform.
The area is managed by the Department of Environment and Conservation. A campground area with 4 designated sites is available at Pepper Point on the headland just south of the beach with easy access to the water level/beach but these must be booked and paid online. No facilities.
