Gidgegannup is a small township 40km northeast of Perth that lies on the Toodyay Road. The nearest town to the west is Midland. The average altitude is 250 meters above sea level. Being located in the Darling Range (locally referred to as the "Perth Hills") and bordering on the Avon Valley, Gidgegannup has a wonderful variety of natural attractions including forests, semi-open landscapes with great valley views, brooks and rivers that run wildly in winter, walk and bridle trails. Gidgegannup is a delightful rural area with many large trees, long winding country roads and attractive horse studs.
There is a scenic drive to the north of Toodyay Road loop that can be done as a loop along O'Brien, Clenton and Berry, and Reen/Reserve Road, which is also designated as a Wildflower Scenic Drive during August - November. Yellow Wattles commence flowering in August, followed by Hibbertia and the distinctive rich blue Leschenaultia. The drive passes through mixed Marri, Jarrah, Powderbark and Wandoo woodlands and provides views to countryside supporting a range of agricultural activities.
The Gidge Show is in late October each year at the Gidgegannup Showgrounds.
