Information
Yeo Lake Homestead is a restored pastoral station building located along the Anne Beadell Highway within the Yeo Lake Nature Reserve. Originally established as part of Yeo Station, the site reflects the challenges of early pastoral activity in this remote desert region, where access to reliable water from nearby Yeo Lake made settlement possible.
The homestead later became a waypoint during Len Beadell’s survey work in the 1950s, before the Anne Beadell Highway was formed. After pastoral operations ceased, the area was incorporated into conservation land and the building was retained.
For many years the homestead provided basic shelter for travellers crossing the Great Victoria Desert. Facilities included a small hut with rooms and veranda, rainwater tank, well, and simple camping amenities. It remains one of the few structures along this remote route and offers a rare glimpse into the region’s pastoral and exploration history. (The hut itself may be fenced - no entry to ensure preservation).
No fees and no booking required.
Facilities include rain water tanks (it is recommended that water is boiled before use), barbecue, tables and a toilet. No fire wood collection is permitted within 10km of the homestead. Best time to visit: Winter-spring when the wildflowers are abundant.
Access is four-wheel drive only and visitors must have provisions such as food, water, fuel and recovery gear.
