This is a popular beach with good access and a large car park surrounding a central kiosk and restaurant, and a lifesaving watchtower.
Port Beach is a five minute drive from Fremantle and a 30 minute drive south of Perth. With attractive views out to Rottnest Island and a popular café adjacent to an enclosed playground, a soft white sandy beach, patrolled swimming beach, and a buzz of activity on summer days.
The beach itself commences on the southern side of Leighton Beach and gently curves to the south for 1 km. Average 1m waves and usually has an attached low tide bar, which is cut by rips during and following periods of higher waves.
Higher waves also produce a beach break called Sandtracks towards the southern end of the beach. The beach is monitored by the Fremantle Surf Life Saving Club on weekends and public holidays in summer.
