Christian Brothers Agricultural History and PurposeEstablishment: Opened in 1928 by the Christian Brothers as St Mary's Agricultural School on an 18,000-hectare property located about 40 kilometers south of Mullewa.Intended Use: Designed to train orphan boys, state wards, and boys showing farming aptitude from Perth's Clontarf orphanage in practical agricultural skills.Child Migrants: Following World War II, the facility also housed British and Maltese child migrants.Architectural Design: Features historic buildings designed in the Inter-War Romanesque style, closely associated with the renowned priest-architect Monsignor John Hawes.Transition: In 1967, the facility shifted away from being primarily a child welfare institution, operating instead as a conventional agricultural boarding school until its closure in 2008 due to sustainability and population challenges.
