The homestead dates from 1906, when James Comtesse took up Cobra Station. James had previously been involved with the Euranna Hotel at Bangemall (later the Bangemall Hotel/Inn), but gave up his hotel interests to concentrate on the pastoral property with his wife, Mary Katherine Comtesse.Mary Katherine lived and worked this isolated pastoral property with James for nearly two decades, died here at only 43, and has remained beside their original homestead for more than a century.
