Information
Located 70km north of Coolgardie, via Coolgardie North Road through Kunanalling and Kintore, Rowles Lagoon is a a semi-permanent fresh water lake and although over 40 species of water birds can be found here, the lagoon is a gazetted water ski area and camping is allowed. Good facilities are provided including picnic shelters, picnic tables, concrete fire rings with hotplate and hook, and eco-toilets. A large information shelter near the boat launching area provides information about the 9 biodiversity zones of the Goldfields. 16 species of waterbird actually breed at the lagoon, the most noted being the Brown Freckled Duck. Other species include the Grey Plover, Black-tailed Godwit, Ruddy Turnstone, Whistling Kite, Little Eagle, Peregrine Falcon and Spotted Harrier.
The last major rain that filled the lagoon was a Cyclone in 2000. Water levels are currently below that necessary for waterskiing. Rowle's Lagoon Nature Reserve features a unique bird watching area, catering for a range of activities including camping and picnicing. Gazetted water ski area. The old boiler in the lagoon was once used to pump water to the Carbine Mine.
