The Combo Waterhole, though picturesque, doesn’t seem to be particularly appealing, as one of a number of semi-permanent billabongs along the Diamantina River south-east of Kynuna, it’s part of the Combo Waterhole Conservation Park, and is a wildlife refuge. However, it’s said to be the setting for Australia’s unofficial national anthem, Waltzing Matilda. Written by A.B. "Banjo" Patterson in 1895 while visiting Dagworth Station in western Queensland ,Approximately 54klm to the turn off toward Winton from Kynuna.
