Irish Buttermilk Bannock

Nice served with a little butter.


  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 1 ½ tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. bicarb soda
  • ¾ cup sultanas
  • 1 egg
  • ¾ cup buttermilk


  • Step 1Mix the dry ingredients with sultanas.
  • Step 2Mix egg with buttermilk.
  • Step 3Pour buttermilk/egg mix into dry ingredients.
  • Step 4Mix till it all comes together.
  • Step 5 Tip onto floured board. Knead gently but not too much.
  • Step 6 Place in a greased tin.
  • Step 7Bake for about 40 min.
