Description

When you're camping, you need a little ingenuity so this is a great way to make cakes in your camp oven when you can't have an open fire. This is hardly a recipe as it uses a packet cake mix but the trick is in how its cooked.

Ingredients

  • 1 pkt banana bread mix
  • extra ingredients as per box instructions (usually water, egg, oil)

Method

  • Step 1Prepare banana bread according to instructions
  • Step 2Place into lightly greased cake pan that fits inside your camp oven
  • Step 3Place a trivet inside your camp over and place cake pan on top. (this ensure your cake pan doesn't touch the base of the camp oven)
  • Step 4Place enough water inside the camp oven so that it covers the trivet and just touches the base of the cake pan
  • Step 5Cover the top of the cake pan with foil to create a seal and stop steam wetting your mixture as it cooks
  • Step 6Put the lid on your camp oven.
  • Step 7Turn on your gas cooker to the lowest setting
  • Step 8Cook for the time indicated on the packet mix
