I am about to order a Bigpond Ultimate Modem to replace my existing Sierra 7.2 and was wondering how others find the performance of the Ultimate and especially wondering what the service is like in remote areas. I have an external aerial on the van. Cheers,
David and Maureen

The Telstra ZTE MF60 with WiFi for $129 is all the current rage. Get 10gb of data for $150 and 12 months expirary.

The Ultimate flies - at least on the Gold Coast. Will not know regarding other places until we head for Quorn.

The bigpond Elite Network Gateway modem is another alernative, but make sure you update the firmware to R20, this gives you the ability to select external antenna which makes a big difference. Of course you need to have an external antenna, we have two, the one fitted by SIM [which is no good for internet where we are, but ok for next G phone] to the wingard and another 12db antenna that we can extend 5mt high that i use for internet.

The differences between the USB style & the modem style, USB your restricted to the length of your antenna cable, whereas the modem is wireless and can be used hundreds of metres away from the modem with multiple networks. We choose wireless modem as it becomes a good home network system.
