Hi , I have asked some of my BT friends about tyres for my car for my Cape York trip and they mostly recommended BF Goodrich all terrains..
However I have just been to my local Tyrepower man who was a little critical of BFs saying that they went out of balance regularly. He strongly recommended Mickey Thompsons and Coopers. Certainly those brands are cheaper than the BFs but I want to get the best for my car and I think people who have driven all over Australia on rough roads would have more knowledge than the tyre man..
I believe MT's are noisy and as my general driving is highway driving I wouldn't like that.

I would appreciate any comments and thanks in anticipation.

Maureen

He strongly recommended them because he's the dealer (profit margin)

For a 100 series with 16" rims the choice is many, example below of three brands I'd happily fit.

Bridgestone 697

Toyo Open Country

G'day Maureen,
Sorry we haven't been in touch for awhile. I'm sort of back in my mates butcher shop full time till the week after Easter. Bit hard getting used to 65 hours a week again ! As for tyres. I wouldn't have anything but Bridgestone Duellers on our Troopy. Tried Coopers on our first trip to Birdsville with our BT and they chipped to hell. Went back to tyre place and they claimed it was
" normal wear & tear ". Hope all's well with you. Sorted out my IPad. (Sort of ).
Lawrie.

Hello Maureen
Just replaced the 5 Duellers on my 100 series 17" rims after 100000kms. They were 694s I think. The new ones are 697s. Cheaper than BF Goodrich but the BFs are still good tyres.

Thanks for all the tyre info everyone. I think I will have a hard time making up my mind now but BF Goodrich are looking good.
Cheers,
Maureen

Hi Maureen,
You probably have your tyres sorted by now....on our previous landcruiser which was a 100 series, we had BFG All Terrains on and towed our BT over some of the roughest tracks there are in OZ with no chipping of the tread and we changed them for a new set after they had done 110,000 klm and still weren't quite down to the safety wear mark.
That's our tyre story.
Cheers
