Diamantina Channels - QLD

The Diamantina is a classic braided stream and has several channels downstream of the Diamantina Gates. The channels criss-cross a floodplain about 5 km wide. The western most channel is the main one and has a concrete causeway at the Springvale road crossing. Staff gauges indicate depths with any level over 2.1 metres covering the causeway. The cease to flow level is 0.65m and then the Diamantina will be a series of custard coloured pools. Other crossings are just dips in the road at higher levels as shown in the above pictures.Travellers can access the current gauge height on the BoM site. Flooding is most likely from Jan to April when it is too hot for comfortable camping.
