The Serpentine Chalet was built in 1958 as a joint venture between early Alice Springs tourism entrepreneur, Len Tuit and the Ansett-Pioneer company. In its hey-day, the Chalet had 5 cabins, a kitchen and staff quarters on-site. The Chalet is now in ruins.
An unsealed access track, suitable for two-wheel drive vehicles, runs to the campsite and ruins. Then a rough four-wheel drive track continues onto Serpentine Chalet Dam and the Larapinta Trail.
