Banana - QLD

Banana is a small, historic rural town and locality in Central Queensland, Australia, strategically situated at the junction of the Dawson and Leichhardt highways, approximately 46 kilometres west of Biloela and 150 kilometres southwest of Rockhampton. Established in 1862 as the region's first township, it gave its name to the expansive Shire of Banana, although the administrative seat is now located in Biloela. Despite its name, the town has no connection to the fruit; it was named in the 1860s after a famous, dun-coloured working bullock called "Banana" that assisted stockmen with wild cattle herds, an origin commemorated today by a life-sized replica statue of the bullock at the town entrance.
