Information

This crossing is typically encountered on Day 2 or 3 of the 82km South Coast Track when traveling from Melaleuca to Cockle Creek. This is one of the major river crossings on the track. The river is known for its distinct tannin-stained, tea-colored water, which is caused by organic matter from the surrounding button grass plains. If the water is above knee-height or flowing too fast, hikers are advised to wait for levels to drop.A permanent guide wire is installed across the river to assist hikers during crossings, as water levels can rise rapidly and become dangerous after heavy rain.
