Information
Kambolgie Campground is situated in the southern part of Kakadu National Park. It provides a basic yet immersive camping experience, ideal for those seeking a closer connection with nature. The campground is basic with just fire pits, picnic tables and pit toilets. No drinking water is available at this site. The camp is close to some walking trails and falls (Motor Car Falls).
The campground epitomizes bush camping, offering a rustic and natural setting that is less developed than some other campgrounds in Kakadu National Park. Accessing Kambolgie Campground is an adventure in itself, as it is reached via Gunlom Road. This road can be particularly challenging and is best navigated with a 4WD vehicle, especially during the wet season when conditions can be difficult. Camping is suitable for tents and camper trailers with small sites not suited to larger vans.
One of the main attractions near Kambolgie Campground is the popular Gunlom Falls, renowned for its scenic plunge pool and stunning views from the top. The area surrounding the campground is teeming with wildlife, offering visitors the chance to see a variety of birds and other native Australian animals in their natural habitat.
To stay at Kambolgie Campground, a camping permit is required. These permits can be easily obtained online or at local visitor centres.
The campsite is at the river crossing and current fees are: $6 per adult. Children 5 to 15 are $3.
