Start any great trip from this very easy to locate Tourist Information Office on the banks of the Murray River in Renmark. For the latest up to date information on the Old Coach Road and all other attractions in the Renmark area, the local staff will be able to give your all the information that you will require. Renmark and the Riverland of South Australia have such a lot to offer the local, interstate and overseas visitor. From the VIC, head north up Ral Ral Avenue.
The Renmark Paringa Visitor Information Centre is also the home and mooring site for the famous Paddle Steamer, PS Industry.
Commissioned in 1911, The PS Industry worked for SA Water Keeping the Murray River open to traffic by removing snags and later in the construction of the locks and weirs. In 1969 the Industry came to the end of its hectic working life as retired as a Steamer and spent the next twenty years as a static museum.
In 1990 a group of volunteers formed and restoration of the PS Industry commenced, and came back to life, this time as the "Lady Mabel" in the mini TV series "River Kings". Still operated by steam, the Industry reached survey in 1995 and was recommissioned as a historic passenger vessel.
The Industry can be inspected from the Visitor Information Centre, Monday - Friday between 9.00am - 4.40pm, Saturdays 9.00am - 3.30pm and Sundays and Public Holidays 12.00 noon - 3.30pm. Steaming days are the first Sunday in each, except May when it is the second Sunday, subject to weather conditions.
