Information
Kandos is a small town in New South Wales, Australia, in the Mid-Western Regional Council, located on the Bylong Valley Way.
It owes its existence to the Kandos Cement Works which was established there in 1915 because of the presence of quality coal and limestone. Cement from Kandos was used in the foundations of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the tunnels for the Sydney underground railways, and numerous other projects. The Works and associated mines and quarries closed in 2011. This story (and more) is detailed in the Kandos Museum, 22 Buchanan Street, open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm.
At the 2011 census, Kandos had a population of 1,284 people.
