This 42km road network winds its way through a section of the Lamb Range, travelling through an amazing transition of vegetation from tall open forest to wet sclerophyll forest and rainforest. On parts of the drive, massive rose gums tower • over the road and fronds of the unique orania palm stand out in the dark understorey. The transition between vegetation types supports a wide range of animal life. These forests are thought to have one of the greatest dasyurid (carnivorous marsupial) densities in Australia. The area provides for nine dasyurid species — two quolls, three antechinuses, two dunnarts, one planigale and one phascogale. It is also a haven for rare and threatened wildlife including the northern bettong, one of the disappearing frog species, and a host of plants.A 4WD code of conduct signboard at the gate entrance should be read before proceeding.Road subject to closure if conditions are unsafe.
