Bendigo is an important regional city that was one of the most significant Victorian era boomtowns of the Victorian gold rush of the 1850s - 1860's. These days, much of the rural land is used for agricultural purposes, including poultry and pig farming, sheep and cattle grazing and vineyards.
Places of interest in the area are Greater Bendigo National Park, the Heathcote-Graytown National Park, the Bendigo Regional Park, Lake Eppalock, Lake Weeroona, Ironbark Lookout, One Tree Hill Lookout.
