History: The barge was presented to settlers north of Cooper Creek by the Dalgety Pastoral Company in 1949 to ferry people, supplies and mail across flood water and to assist drovers with the crossing of cattle on route to the Adelaide market.It was used up until 1960, but for most of the time sat high and dry, waiting for the next flood.
It has been positioned besides the track since 1986, about one kilometre south of where floodwaters reach, as an historic memorial. It is not the Cooper Creek Ferry which used to sit on blocks at the bypass on the south bank of the creek, except when used in floods, lastly in 2010 to 2012.
